The Love of a Dog

I've been in mourning since losing Daisy several months ago, and it didn't take me long to start researching breeds of dogs. I dearly love poodles, but became intrigued with mixes of them and labrador retrievers and golden retrievers. Labradoodles and Goldendoodles seem to be a good fit for our family, and are expected to have less health problems than a poodle alone.

After deciding on a breed (Goldendoodle), I started searching for reputable breeders, and asked to be placed on a waiting list for a puppy. Though it will be a few more weeks before I can bring her home, I got to hold my new baby yesterday.

Isn't she adorable?

Autumn has also been lonely since having to return Gallagher to the Pilot Dog program in December, and really wanted a dog of her own. Because she works all day, we thought it best that she didn't get a puppy. She contacted the same breeder, and inquired about grown dogs that have been retired from their breeding program. They had just the girl for her.

Meet Sophie! Sophie is six, and is a Standard Poodle. She's as sweet as can be, a little shy, but very loving.

I've written a bit about the walking that I've been doing, and my mileage has increased even more. Verne and I started thinking that it would be a good idea for me to have a walking companion, and inquired about a good match for my walks, but also a wonderful children's dog as I really wanted her to bond with Abigail and Collin.

They suggested Violet, a four year old chocolate labrador retriever who loves long walks, and was trained by a 14 year old boy.

Sophie and Violet made their way into our hearts and our home yesterday afternoon, and we're anxious to bring our puppy home soon as well. Crazy? Maybe. but there's nothing like the love of a dog, and we have plenty of people to love them back.

Any name suggestions for the new puppy? She's a girl.

oh what fun! as ill-behaved as our dog Charlie is... I really enjoy his company at night when Richard works. I know you all are going to have a blast with your new family members :o)

They all look lovely...but the face on your puppy is sooooo adorable!! I know how empty your house felt without your doggy friends to share it with you! I'm happy that you were able to fill it again with some wagging tails....as for a name...that's a tough one! let me think on that!

We have 3 dogs too and it is a *BLAST*! One of them is a yellow lab and they are a lot of fun.

Congratulations on the new canine members of your family and I LOVE that y'all adopted some adult dogs too.

For the name for the wee one.....I like 'Piper' or 'Lily'.

Oh and can I just say that you look so incredibly slim in the picture of you holding your new puppy? Wow.

Hi Tracy,

You are so sweet and have such a big heart. I would like to respectfully ask if you would please consider animal shelters or through petfinder.com to find a dog. I volunteer in an animal shelter and there is always a tremendous need to find loving homes for dogs and cats and other animals. You can find purebreds, puppies, older dogs, etc. Thank you.

Anonymous,

Hello! Our family has adopted through an animal shelter in the past, and they are a great place to look! At this time, three dogs and two cats are all we can handle, so our search is over.

Thanks for your sweet response Tracy. Can I just say how generous and caring your daughter Autumn is to take in an older dog who needs a home? Your family is truly exceptional and I wish you much happiness with your new family members.
