Please forgive my unannounced, impromptu disappearance from the blog for nearly a week. Sometimes real life just needs living, with no strings attached. A step away from the computer can be so very refreshing!
Verne's accident back in November left him a very sore, very changed man. One of the most painful things he has had to deal with is the absence of cartilage in the lower joint on his right thumb. It seems that the impact of the wreck caused the cartilage to be completely dislodged in the joint and he has had bone rubbing on bone for the past five months. For an active man who does all of his own home improvements, car repairs, etc., this has proved to be very difficult to live with. After months of physical therapy and consulting with specialists, he had surgery last week to correct the problem. It was an extensive surgery, and there were a few complications, but he should be on the road to recovery now, although he is more sore than ever for the time being.
Mac has a birthday coming up, and before Verne was assigned a surgery date we bought tickets to see a concert for his gift. Verne was a trooper and attended with the rest of us despite his pain and having to travel with ice and pillows to prop his arm. It was a wonderful evening.

When I saw that William was going to be playing within a reasonable distance for us to travel, and just a week before Mac's birthday, I knew it would make the perfect gift. Mac and I split the driving since Verne is still recovering, and we all had a great evening listening to Slow Runner and William Fitzsimmons perform in a small bar where we also enjoyed a really good dinner.
It was a pretty good weekend of family fun- even for the guy in the bandages.

Sounds like a wonderful weekend outing! I'll keep Verne in my prayers for a quick healing.
I'll have to check out some of your music choices. I am not familiar with all of them.
Hoping Verne is mending more each day and that the end result of the surgery is excellent.

I need to start taking notes on all the creative things you do with your family. I hope when we are blessed with children that we are as active and involved with our kids are you are with yours!
