Farmhouse Floor

When we moved into this house eight years ago, Autumn immediately chose this room as hers. I have to admit, as nice as our master bedroom is, I was jealous of that window, and all of the natural light. When Autumn moved out, Abigail thought she wanted this room, but has since changed her mind. Now, it's mine! My sewing room is being moved from the back of the house to the front where the sun shines brighter. The cathedral ceiling makes the room super inviting, too.

We replaced the worn out carpet with this wonderful wide-planked farmhouse floor, following the directions from Frugal Farmhouse Design. We couldn't be happier with it.

Now to get all of that fabric lugged from one end of the house to the other, and organized neatly. This is not the fun part. I can't wait to sew in here.

Awesome! I love that room and the window!

Thank you for linking to the flooring tips. I love brilliant ideas! I would choose a different color but I love the technique. Genius!

What a wonderful place to sew...I'm slightly jealous...

Love

Deanna, it's difficult to tell from the photo, but our floor is off-white, and not gray like the Frugal farmhouse floor.

Oh, I didn't know you didn't moderate. My apologies. I realize this looks like a snark. It is not.

And what a beautiful view to sew by! Enjoy :)

Gramemaw, I totally agree with your comment, and yes, we did let Autumn choose that room, BUT, our room is larger, has a private bath, walk in closet, etc. It's truly the MASTER bedroom. It just doesn't have the pretty window. ;-) Had she wanted the true master bedroom, we would have laughed hysterically and said, "NO!"

oh my GOODNESS...that is just about the most amazing room ever. I can see a window like that in a living room (it's been done before) but in a PRIVATE room?! WOW. What I wouldn't give!

And it will make a beautiful, sunny, inspiration-flying room for your sewing. Right now, I would give anything just for a hole in the wall room to keep my sewing machine set up in, mind you. So THIS-this seems from a dream!

Will you show pictures of the finished project? I'd love to see it all done!

I really love the look of light flooring. When we moved into this house I painted several floors a light shade of gray (loving the look of white but being very afraid with the herds of feet in this house, that it would not be magazine-esque in about 10 minutes after cleaning.) Well, seems I overestimated the gray too. For us, it is so hard to keep clean. I guess beautiful, bright and clean floors are not my lot in life (for now.)

:-)

I LOVE THIS!!! That room was gorgeous before...but the after is amazing!

We saw this on the frugal farmhouse page, and we immediately wanted to try this in our house...our only concern was the spacing. How do you keep dirt from getting caught in the spaces between the boards? (Or does the floor finish fill in those cracks?)

Jordin, That's a good question! I have to admit, this project was more labor intensive than the Frugal Farmhouse blog implied. We spaced the boards with pennies, and afterword, we put paint into an empty condiment bottle, and went over the cracks, let it sit for a few minutes, and rolled over it so that the edges were smooth. There are about 5 coats of the Varathane floor finish as well, and I don't think the cracks will be an issue now. The floor finish is very smooth, and nice.
