Compassion

I mentioned several months back that our family decided to sponsor a child through Compassion International in lieu of Christmas gifts this year. After looking through many profiles, we decided on Melisa. She lives in Columbia, and is 15 years old. I've been praying for her daily, and I often find myself surprised with just how much she's on my mind.

As I was getting a letter ready to mail Melisa today, Abigail decided that she wanted to include one as well. And she fancied it up...

with lots of green glitter.

A green glitter butterfly. Yes, I think it's just perfect.

I'm looking forward to receiving a letter back soon from this dear girl, already so close to my heart.

First of all I think its wonderful you have "added a member" to your family this way. (because I've read your blog long enough to know you're not just sponsoring her, but loving her across all these miles)
Second, I think its wonderful that you picked an older child-I think in the sponsorship world, they get neglected in leu of the cute babies and toddlers.
She's beautiful, I hope she likes her green butterfly!

How blessed your feel when you have * compassion* for those with not much of it.
It is lovely to give, give and give some more.

Aw, that is lovely!! Our first few Compassion children were young, but the letters from our teens have been filled with more details and are so great to read.
Perhaps you know this, but in case you don't, it can take up to 6 months to hear back from your child. I would suggest that you keep writing, though, even before you hear back. We write to our 9 CI kids twice a month and while there is lag time with travel, we end up getting letters pretty frequently because we keep writing on a regular basis.
I think that your green butterfly is so sweet. God bless you for taking on this responsibility. Feel free to stop by my blog if you ever need letter writing ideas or tips for goodies to send along with letters.
